COMMERCIAL ENGINEER

Reporting to: Sales Director
Reportees: None

Hours: 37.75 (standard hours are 8.15 to 17.00 Monday to Thursday, 8.15 to 13.00 Friday but may be some flexibility on this)
Location: Main place of work will be at Evington Valley Road, Leicester. Occasional site and customer visits may be required

About us

Cressall Resistors design and manufacture high power electrical resistors used in electricity generation, transmission and distribution as well as in the industrial automation, marine, telecoms and rail transit markets.

Applications for our products include the neutral earthing of MV and HV systems, the dynamic braking of motors and industrial drives and the load testing of batteries and generators. We supply to large contractors, OEMs and end users throughout the UK and worldwide.

Job Overview

To monitor and control orders (contracts) received by the company, to ensure the expectations of our customers are satisfied, to ensure all related departments are aware of the requirements of the order and that these are achieved.

Essential Skills

  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft products including Word and Excel

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor progress of orders through all departments against pre agreed targets, prompting where required. Ensure this information is regularly reported to sales, engineering and production personnel.
  • Ensure that engineering and production departments are aware of long lead time ‘sub contracted’ items that could impact on the delivery of an order.
  • Handle and control changes, variations and amendments to orders, ensure these are processed to gain maximum advantage for Cressall.
  • Manage and oversee where required customer visits and inspections, ensure all departments are aware and ready for such visits.
  • Prepare and process customers contract documentation as agreed with the sales department and in accordance with the contract requirements. Ensure outstanding customer information is progressed in a timely manner to meet all control mileposts.
  • Liaise with customers to ensure agreed mileposts are achieved, if for any reason there are delays ensure that the customer is kept informed at all times.
  • Liaise with the sales order scheduler to ensure that contracts requiring export documentation, packing and or shipping are dealt with effectively and efficiently and in line with the customers expectations.
  • Liaise with sub contract packing companies as required with reference to customer packing requirements.

ELECTRICAL DESIGN ENGINEER

We design and manufacture electrical equipment used in electricity generation, transmission and distribution as well as in the industrial automation, marine, telecoms and rail transit markets. We supply to large contractors, OEMs and end users throughout Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

About The Role

We are looking for an electrical design engineer who can provide expertise to support the engineering team with the design of electrical equipment for a range of industrial applications. This will include electrical best practice and implementation of industry standards. This is a pivotal role to the business as the design team continue to develop innovative solutions to meet customer specifications and develop products for new market applications.

The specific nature of the product make it essential that you have an excellent grasp of mechanical and electrical engineering principles. The successful candidate will be expected to have had several years hands-on design experience.

Principal responsibilities include:

  • Review design requirements & assist engineering team with technical aspects of designs including specification of materials.
  • Produce design calculations and corresponding paperwork to manufacture designs (resistor element and design overview sheets).
  • Produce and Approve drawings, Bills of Materials and other design information issued for equipment manufacture.
  • Conduct technical investigations, develop and maintain appropriate design and support processes, carrying out root cause analysis and initiating corrective action as necessary.
  • Provide technical support to Production, Sales, Service and Customer Support.
  • Deliver projects on schedule and on budget, demonstrating the ability to handle the pressure of managing a complex range of projects, a high volume of work, within a fast pace of implementation.
  • Understand and apply relevant design, regulatory and industry standards.

About You

  • Experience with electrical design work preferably with medium and high voltage design experience.
  • Qualified to degree level (or equivalent) in electrical engineering.
  • Knowledge of, and experience of designing in accordance with IEC 60204 and IEC 61439.
  • Experience of the product CE marking process and DFMEA.
  • A high level of competency with Autodesk, in particular AutoCAD Electrical is highly desirable.
  • A CAD software package such as Autodesk Inventor, Creo, Siemens would be an advantage.
  • Good communication and the ability to integrate not only with the design team, but other office staff and the manufacturing operatives.
